12 Days of Christmas - Day 2/Black Friday Tips

I am jumping in a day late on the 12 Days of Christmas with Aly and Molly AND I doubt I will be able to participate every day since I am traveling for the next five... but I did want to participate when I had the chance!

To be honest with you, I have only shopped on Black Friday once and that was last year. Secondly, I doubt I will ever ever ever attempt it again. It was a NIGHTMARE. I only had one stop planned and that was to dreaded Wal-Mart. I wanted to get B Rock Band for his Christmas gift and they were having an awesome sale on it. So, I set my alarm for 3 a.m. and got up and headed to Wal-Mart (practically still dressed in my PJ's mind you.) I mistakenly thought that the sale started at 4 a.m. I was wrong. It started at 5 a.m. So, I was tad bit early... but it is a good thing I was because there were already a million people there.

TIP NO. 1) Arrive early. If you think it is too early, think again.

If you haven't shopped at Wal-Mart on Black Friday... keep in mind that the big sale items are covered in tarp/paper/sheets/whatever. It is important to know where your item of interest is located inside the store so that you can camp out beside it before the unveiling of the tarp at sale time.

TIP NO. 2) Be familiar with the layout of the store and where your items of interest are to be located. If I am correct, the store usually has an ad in the paper on Thursday letting you know where you can find each item that is on sale. I would take the ad with you with the location highlighted and circled and targeted for easy access.

I could not find Rock Band and I was walking around the store like a chicken with its head cut off searching for it while people were steadily piling up at every tarp imaginable. Apparently, none of the employees were even aware this item was on sale.

I finally decided the best thing to do was place myself near Electronics (I figured it must be near there) and hope for the best. Meanwhile, two people who knew each other... but were not there together... start to argue about something trival... (not a sale item) less than 3 feet away from me. Next thing I know, they are running after one another and I hear "Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!" Someone shouts, "Gun!" and I leave my cart behind and haul my happy ass up outta there. Ain't no sale worth my life.

TIP NO. 3) Wear a bulletproof vest.

I kid, I kid. Turns out, it wasn't actually a gun. It was, in fact, one of the irate people beating on the video game case. I didn't find out this tid bit of information until I was actually safe and sound at home watching the news. Side note: I was able to call B's mom (who was at a different Wal-Mart) and she was able to grab a Rock Band for me and I paid her back.

TIP NO. 4) Save yourself the stress and trouble of waking up early on your day off, getting mobbed by lunatic people, getting tramped by grandma, and order your Christmas gifts online. Many online stores have Black Friday sales too!
